Amma Center of New Mexico

An ashram is not a mere cluster of inanimate buildings, temples, trees, and residences; rather it is the very embodiment of the Spiritual Master's Grace. It is a vital, dynamic and living institution which stimulates the aspiration of the sincere student to attain the State of Oneness
                   ~Amma

Amma's Santa Fe ashram is surrounded by the inspiring beauty of the high desert foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains-clear night skies, arroyos, pinon and ponderosa pines, blankets of snow in winter, wild flowers in spring and summer, and golden leaves in fall. Jackrabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, coyotes, and many species of birds are among the wildlife that flourishes in the area. Among the many walking areas, one of the most compelling is our own "Shiva Mountain," a hill behind the ashram building that lends a mystical backdrop to the landscape.

Mother's Divine Presence Blesses the Land

For eighteen years from 1987 to 2005, Mother came annually to these serene acres to shower Her Divine Grace and Love upon all. The newly built ashram was officially blessed by Amma in June 1996. The peaceful setting provides an ideal place for those seeking to imbibe and practice Mother's teachings.

In addition to the small band of residents, visitors are welcome to spend from 1-3 days based on occupancy, in the modest Santa Fe-style accommodations for a small fee.

The ashram schedule includes the chanting of the 108 names of Amma and the Thousand Names of the Divine Mother (Lalitasahasranam) every morning. The various evening activities can include bhajans, meditation, chanting, music practice, scripture discussion, and a Q & A with Steve Schmidt. A selection of spiritual books can be checked out of the small lending library. In addition to retreats and special programs, the ashram currently hosts celebrations of Krishna Janmasthami, Shivaratri, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Amma's Birthday.

Daily Routine

The daily routine includes archana (chanting of the 108 Names of Amma and the 1000 Names of Divine Mother), meditation, seva or service to God, and bhajans (devotional singing).

We especially invite you to satsang on Saturday nights, beginning at 6:30pm in the temple, and to archana beginning at 8am on Sunday mornings.

Amma's Visits

Amma visits New Mexico every summer in June. We have detailed information posted on our homepage in the month prior to her arrival each year. Please check the homepage for the latest information on Amma's visit to New Mexico this year.

Resources

We have a library of spiritual books located in the ashram

Satsang

The main Saturday night satsang is held in the main temple on the Amma Center grounds beginning at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome. Come and listen to a talk, sing bhajans (devotional songs) and enjoy a delicious vegetarian dinner afterwards.
