This past November (2007) in San Ramon at the Q&A during the retreat, someone asked Amma what we could do to help the earth. One of the things that Amma suggested was that each of us could plant a tree a month. Also, over the course of the past 7 years in New Mexico, 45 million trees have been lost to fires, disease, bark beetle (which is actually a drought issue), and other factors. So in the spirit of attempting to follow Amma’s instructions, New Mexico GreenFriends is beginning an exploration of how the Amma Center of New Mexico and the community can plant trees and understory shrubs twice a year (spring and fall) annually.
TREE and SHRUB PLANTING for 2008
This Spring the Santa Fe satsang community ordered 164 trees
and shrubs to plant this spring! Our next endeavor will involve
finding additional tree resources for the Fall and expanding
our ability to offer trees and support tree planting efforts
throughout the state and the region. If you would like to
be involved in any capacity with this endeavor or involved
with any other NM GreenFriends activities, please contact
Divya at 505-982-9801 ext 20 or email ashram@ammacenter.org.
Planting a tree is selfless service to society.
Just as we enjoy the presence of trees planted by people in the
past, we too should plant for the future generations. - Amma
